Hey Kids. Over here at Cash Crop Clothing we believe quality is the only option in life. But we are bringing quality to the streets in a much more conscience eco-friendly way. Using only organic and recycled materials. So we have compiled a little bit of education for you, hopefully to help you make much more earth friendly decisions when purchasing new goods. We would like to think you all already know this information but for those of you that don't.

Enjoy.

ORGANIC COTTON

Cotton that is grown without pesticides from plants that are not genetically modified. Though organic cotton has less environmental impact than conventional cotton, it costs more to produce, but it’s totally worth it. You’re paying for not only quality but also your making a difference in our environment. Side effects of conventional production that are avoided in organic growing methods include: high levels of agrochemicals. Yes that means your wearing chemicals and pesticides. Conventional cotton production uses more chemicals per unit area than any other crop and accounts for 16% of the world’s pesticides and pollutions. The chemicals used in the processing of cotton pollute the air and water. Just something to think about you know.

BAMBOO-BLEND

Using bamboo in textiles is a process with little or no environmental damage. It has long fibers that are extremely strong. It has a natural ability to breath and wick moisture away due to its porous nature. Bamboo will actually keep you about 2 degrees cooler than regular cotton. The process to use bamboo in clothing is ecologically friendly and does not require any chemicals. Makes you want a Panda huh?

SOY-BLEND

Soy is probably one of the coolest natural fibers you can use in clothing. It has been called the “Vegetable Cashmere” due to its soft hand. Soy has a natural wicking property in it that basically makes this fiber water repellent with out spraying some weird toxin on it. This fiber is so young it is still being explored some benefits to wearing soy blend clothing is that the natural amino acid in the bean have positive effects on the wearers skin.

P.E.T

For all you bloggers out there you may have already seen some brands bragging about a piece being P.E.T. Is what that means is it is recycled plastics. With today’s technologies we have figured out a way to use recycled plastic and make it into what feels and looks like leather but infact is recycled goods. Your either going to think this is cool or gross. Now you might be saying how is this eco friendly since plastic definitely doesn't fall into the same circle as soy or organic? Well plastic products are going to be made regardless so since we are recycling this product to make other products we are in turn helping the earth by creating less waste. PET can also be recycled into fibers that are used for polyester fabrics. 5 plastic bottles is enough to create one XL tee shirt or 1 large leather jacket. PET is spun like cotton candy to give you a visual. And can also be made into fibers to fill pillow and quilts. Pretty interesting information.

SELVAGE DENIM (ALSO CALLED SEL”EDGE” DENIM)

OK now this a good one, it doesn't really have much to do with the environment. But......... Heres the low down. It doesn't get better than selvage. The word selvage come from the phrase Self edge. This is the natural edge of a roll of fabric. It is made on old style shuttle looms. These looms weave fabric with one continuous cross thread that is passed back and forth the whole length down. As the thread (weft) loops back into the edge of the denim it creates this self-edge. People want this material because it doesn't fray and the weave of the denim is extremely tight resulting in heavier weight fabrics that last way longer. It doesn't get better. Seriously. One way you can tell if your denim is legit selvage is by turning up your cuff the selvage edge is usually stitched with color. Red is the most common. But green brown or white is also used.

So boys and girls that's all the knowledge I'm going to kick... You got to go out and educate yourself now. I hope these facts will help you make more conscience quality and eco friendly decisions when purchasing your clothing.
